Our Gardens

Below are a selection of images of our garden partners in their shared spaces taken by photographer Fern Farmer in summer 2022. These images were displayed at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in September 2022 as part of an exhibition “Sharing Gardens: Sharing Lives” to celebrate Edinburgh Garden Partners 11th Anniversary

Charity of the Year Finalist 2026

We were honoured to be one of four finalists for small Charity of the Year at SCVOs Scottish Charity Awards 2026 - this is of course a testament to all the hard work our volunteers put in each week in their shared gardens, and would not have been possible without the wonderful garden owners who choose to share their space.

 

Intergenerational Excellence Award 2022

In March 2022 our work was recognised by Generations Working Together and we received an award for Intergenerational Excellence in Tackling Climate Change. The video below, made by Generations Working together, features garden owner, Mamie and volunteer, Murray in their shared space, as well as Project Coordinator, Debs explaining what EGP means to them.

As my own garden is small and shady I am unable to grow vegetables successfully so was delighted when EGP offered me the opportunity to grow some in Simon’s old vegetable plot. As he had grown older he had been unable to care for it and it had become overrun with brambles, horsetail, horseradish and several other perennial weeds

I don’t know about anyone else but at my first day in the garden I had no idea what I was meant to know or do. However, in the last year I have been on multiple wonderful courses learning as much as I can about plants, have learned how to prepare for winter, dug up many a gnarly unkempt weed and most recently brought my family round to visit and put them to work for an hour – something I’d never even have thought I could when I first started.

When I first met Jean, she told me that she had never been interested in gardening but was happy that someone else could benefit from her garden. I was not her first garden partner and she made it clear that as well as doing the garden having a “blether” over a cup of tea was certainly expected!
